Colts are giving 4.5 to the Titans and the Crads are giving 3.5 to the Eagles. That's the spread I'm working with.

You're close. Just adjust your mathematical formula, its the final score plus the spread added to the underdog's score.

Tom, what's the spread on eagles/cards?

This is one thing I never understood or tried since I do not gamble. Want to school a guy and put it in moderator (third grader) terms for me? I still don't get how that works.

I guess I don't under the spread thing. I thought it was a side plus points. From what I saw you were picking the away teams plus with them up by a certain amount of points.

As an example the Steelers were getting 2.5 points. The final score was Ravens 22 Steelers 20 +2.5= 22.5 so I win by 1/2 a point.

So when you say Rams by 8.5 points you are saying SF will win by more that 8 points? For example (spit balling scores):

SF - 24
STL - 17

^ You would win by 1.5 points? I guess I get the math but it still seems foreign to me.

You are correct if you bet on STL +8.5 you win by 1.5 points in your example.

This makes a little more sense now, thanks Tom! Next rookie question. Why are you using a half of a point if there is not half point in a score? What is the purpose of that?

It's called the hook! You can't end in a tie............see. There is no push.

Lol this spread talk brings me back to my gambling (single) days. We were betting on everything we could. We once took an over/under on a 8lb oreck excell vacuum @ 2am. We saw the infomercial after some adult beverages, and one thing led to another...
