It's like last year in the playoff when the Falcons and Seahawks played. I was firmly rooting for the Falcons (not a popular choice around here obviously). But since they are out of it this year, damn straight I want the local team to win it all.

I also root for say the Lions because they have a Georgia QB (and I dislike Cutler and hate farve's team) and I root for the Titans because they have a Husky QB. Rooting for doesn't mean I want them to beat my Falcons or even the Seahawks though.

Or rooting for whomever is playing against Dallas, SF, Denver, Brady, E. Manning, ect.

Before the Broncos and Chargers met in Week 15, Denver had the league's best third-down offense. By the end of the season, San Diego did, and the divergent performances in the Chargers' 27-20 win Dec. 12 had much to do with the Broncos dropping to No. 2 in the league.

That game -- the first of three without wide receiver Wes Welker, sidelined because of a second concussion in four games -- saw the Broncos go 2-of-9 on third downs, their worst ratio of the season to that point. Ten days later, when Welker missed his second consecutive game, they struggled even more, going 2-of-11.

They stopped the bleeding in Oakland in Week 17, but by the time the fourth quarter of the season ended, the Broncos had converted just 18 of 48 third downs in Weeks 14-17, and only once finished a game above 40 percent. During that span, Welker was limited to one half of football. Clearly, he was missed.

"Big time," said wide receiver Eric Decker. "He's a guy that has done very well on third down -- and just any down it is. When you lose a weapon like that you have to fill the shoes and I don't think we as a team did a good enough job of having a successful first down, minimizing the third and longs and taking advantage of some of the opportunities we had."

Prior to Welker's second concussion, the Broncos converted 48.2 percent of their third downs. Their percentage was just 39.0 in the three-and-a-half games they played without him.

yes, thomas and decker converted more third downs by season end because welker missed 3 games plus left early in 2 other lol

Eddie, Welker went out in Week 15... DEN's 3rd down issue was before Welker's injury.

"When the Broncos started off the season at 6-0 and appeared to be world-beaters, they were playing at a historic level on third downs. Manning’s offense converted 58.9 percent of their third downs, including 17 of 33 on third-and-7 or longer. This gave them an offensive DVOA of 88.9% in third-down situations, easily the best in the league.
That number has dropped dramatically in the eight games that followed. In Weeks 7-15, the Broncos’ third-down DVOA is down to 26.5%, fifth in the league."

lol, i said welker would help with their third down conversions and picking up 1st downs, you say decker and thomas picked up most of them despite playing the whole season and welker going out in the first half of week 14 PLUS getting knocked out in a game 2 weeks prior(decker and thomas had 66 and 64 first down overall, welker had 49)....then you bring up Denver's third down situation overall shifting the focus away from the original comments.

even your highlighted text still shows them in the top 5, like it's something to be ashamed of. if denver will have problems, it's not going to be on the offensive side of the ball.

LOL, 3rd down conversions = picking up 1st downs.

Eddie, I think we're both #FOMOF

LOL

yeah i'm too lazy to try to find 3rd down conversions by WRs as most places only want to show it by QBs. you haven't shown it either though

is it really only thursday? i'm ready to stop talking about football and watch some. i've been sick all week so this week is draaggging.

I am ready for the games also, either going to be a great weekend or a reason to crack the whisky, put my jersey away for the season and think about all the work need to get done around the house that i have been neglecting for football.
