Oh alright...I'll stop making fun of soccer or Association Football or whatever it's called.
 
I guess it was a university thing. They added er to shortened words. Rugby would be ruggER for example. The socc in soccer was from abbreviating asociation football. Soc+er gave soccer. I do appreciate that you guys in the US call it soccer and that will likely never change. But please bare in mind the game is called football. There are references to 'football' as far back as the 13th century. If you call it soccer it is only because you changed its real name for your own purposes.

LOL,I started to post that but decided not to.
 
Lets face it. American football was 2 American guys watching a rugby match. First says "id like to play that but im too scared of getting hurt" second one says " you're right, how about we do it wearing armour?" LOL:p
