Official SCUBA thread 2014

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was only giving you a hard time and though water had to be cold that does sound fun.

Sorry no pictures posted yet. Was out diving Saturday and got a few nice pictures and videos but I've been so busy since then I haven't had time to get on my computer and upload the pictures. Hopefully later I will.

Enough suspense! I finally remembered I need to upload pictures while I'm on the computer :).

Strawberry was very cloudy this weekend with 10-15 feet visibility up to 20 feet offshore. Any farther out than that and vis averaged 5 feet being less than that in the deeper parts of the quarry. Had some wicked rain lately so I think that's why. Didn't see as many fish as usual but still saw a lot, 90% Largemouth Bass, 9% Bluegills, and 1% Black Crappies. Water temp was 74F at the surface and 62F at 33 feet deep. Sorry the pictures look green but any red filter I add makes them look rusty-colored at Strawberry and I prefer to green to to brown.

Finally figured out how to embed videos :D

Group of four (three together and a straggler about three or four minutes behind them as they moved into the freshwater)..... Two were preg females.
Let me say, it's not fun getting into 70F water in just board shorts when I very acclimated to the 88F+ water for reef/shark diving. My Minnesota blood has been replaced by Florida blood for sure. I remember thinking 'as soon as the ice melts' was an ok temp to dive before moving South. Haha

Thats some awesome photography Matt! Lol, that's how it is with me, when I look at the quarry and it isn't frozen I think to myself "mid vine season is finally here" :). Others on my local dive club will do an annual January dive after drilling through 3 feet of ice with a hand rank auger, fun to watch XD

Thanks. Those are stills pulled from the video. My GoPro sucks at pictures. Taking screen shots comes out better than actual pics.
I still need to up load the videos to YouTube. Too many to sort through tonight.

My wife (who does manatee rehab for a career) got in to check on the two preg females and get and ID on them with me. Sadly, almost all of the manatees down here can be recognized by the prop marks and other scars. FWC has a big file going to keep track of them all.

Only one more weekend of diving left this year for me so Matt will have to be the sole contributor to this thread after that :). Going to my local quarry on the weekend of the 20th for the annual camp out and staying Saturday afternoon until late morning Sunday, it'll be the only night dive there of the year. Hopefully I can find some catfish then at least. Been a slow year for diving so pared to last year but I've been way busier with my tanks than last year being up to 7 tanks and 2 bins now.

Went freediving a lot in the mediterranean when on holiday. It's sad to see how overfished it is.. hardly anything to be seen.
