how large do you feel it should be for the stock then? I'm no aro keeper, just trying to get a friend to trade it in or make him do what he has to when the time comes. 200 long too small?

Bare minimum should be a 300g with a 96"x30" footprint. Even this will be too small should the arowana grow beyond 30".

Well the tank in the video I posted is a 450g and you saw how big those silvers were, just imagine them in a tank 1-2' shorter...

Yeah I'm not around these large tanks often so I have trouble imagining the true sizes just from saying gallons or even seeing a video haha, but I would see that being a problem now I know the other person earlier was a little on the small side w/ their suggestion

Ok, I'm going to try to get him to trade it in. I don't think he's down to build a 300 gallon tank or possibly larger. Ugh. Such a headache for me haha the fish should be fine though, I'll be steering him towards bichir that will fit in the tank for life. That's what he told me he wanted in the first place anyway haha thanks for the info guys it helps when he can read real experienced owners saying these things

Just wait till it gets drop eye and tell him off, then maybe he will learn about some thing called research before he gets a fish. I have friends exactly like who you are describing. If there like some of my friends there not going to listen to anything you say until they face check and run into a problem. It's his fish and he can do what he wants with his fish, it is a shame to see such a fish in the hands of such a bad owner but eh what can you do. He'll learn the hardway. If the fish is about 3.5 inches I estimate it will be good for over 6 months. It depends tho. My friend has gotten his jar the same time as me at 6 inches and mines a good 10-11 inches and his is still six inches.... and it has been about 3 months. His water quality is so poor... And even leaves a fh with no heater lmfao.

Lol that's not fair. Silvers get drop eye no matter what. But if its below 10 inches it can last in a 75. Going past that your looking at 300+ gallon... Even my 225 is too small for my silver

Just help the guy out its small now but mine started in a 29 gallon and is working its way up as it grows. It started about 5 inches is now 8". While it is a difficult fish in terms of tank size required it has shown itself to be extremely hardy and very easy to care for. No signs of drop eye or anything so far. It's missing one scale from a recent border collie scare but other than that one jump my silver aro has shown to be one of the easier fish I've kept.
