His first thought was well could I keep it for a while if I get like a 120? I said no you shouldn't because it'll be harder to rehome in the future. He agreed thankfully.

Saw this coming, went to the store to try and return it and they said no because they were "fully stocked". That's why I don't go to this place for fish they don't know anything and have terrible service. I'm going to see if the place I'm picking up a p. weeksii from later in the week would take him when I come in. I had him put an add on craigslist and we are going to see if anyone down for a trade or sale at the aquarium club meeting. Thanks for the estimates guys, I know I couldn't accurately ballpark it for him so I didn't want to say some way cheaper number haha

RTC's do get big. Juv's grow extremely fast, but having said that truth is they reach a certain size and their growth slows tremendously compared to when they are juvs. Especially in captivity. I don't know of any mfker's that have 4-5ft rtc's that are 50-100 plus pounds. Though I wouldn't doubt that there are a few mfkers/hobbiest's out there with rtc's of that caliber. But just from what I've personally seen, I've only seen 2-3fters that are healthy in huge aquariums and ponds. But nothing close to what they would be like in the wild. But I agree that given the situation rehoming the rtc was in the best interest of the fish. Well your buddy got a new fish now so happy fish keeping.

Yeah, i try to always assume the fish will get to its max size no matter what just as a safety thing to not stunt/kill a fish. Hence why im building a 6x3x3 for my own haha. But yeah, it would have been cool for a while, but i gurantee he would have tried adding other fish, then began losing said fish haha so hes probably saved himself some future tankmates
