We just lost power and I don't have a generator. How long can rays survive with no filtration running. I'm getting worried.

man, i dont have an awnser for you but good luck and hope the power comes back on quick

Thanks I've invested alot into these guys I don't want to lose them. I'm curious as to how long they can be without power, I just changed the water 3 days ago

you don't need to really worry about the filter for a day or two, its the heat...i cant think of an easy way to keep the tank heated under then putting a BBQ under your tank.

You should have posted here as this is your emergency. Hope the stingray keepers answer you ASAP.

Never do this! :screwy: You could either set your house on fire or kill your whole family with carbon monoxide! :screwy:

If you have a battery operated air pump, get a stone goin in the tank to help keep the water areriated. If no air stone, stir the water every 1/2 hr. or so to help keep air in the water. Dont feed the fish till its back up and running. If you think the powers gonna be out for awhile, you may throw a blanket over the tank to help keep the heat in as long as possible.

I have had a few breakers flip when I wasnt home, they can survive for atleast 6 hours without power in my case, but really it depends on the size of your tank and how many rays are in there. Temps and oxygen in the water is what you need to worry about.

You need to break the surface to add oxygen, worst case get a big spoon and start stiring. As far as temps, hot water from your water heater is going to be your best, wouldnt worry about the temps unless it starts to gets into the low 70s.

if i were you..I'll do 10% water change every 4-5 hours. but this also depending on your stock..and tank size.
