Oh crap!

Don`t forget that some of the aerobic bacteria could die if you dont get the power back "soon". Your canister/sump could possible turn in to a toxic bomb if it takes too long... this of course depends on how many hours we are talking about, and what "state" your canister/sump is in.

If we are talking several hours i would feed carefully the next days after power comes back, and i would also kept an eye on the water parameters.

Good advise!

Thanks everyone the power went back on after 6 hours of no power. Thankfully when I did the water change I swapped out the filter sponges so all filtration was very clean. I've kept an eye on them all night and their all acting normal. I'm going to do a 30% water change and keep an eye on them some more. Once again thank you everyone for some very good advice.

Buy a 10 dollar battery operated air pump at PetSmart as a backup....when they sense the power loss, they kick on with batteries.....the 2Dcellmodel lasts at least 10-12 hours, and eventhough an airstone is minimal agitation, its SOMETHING!!...glad to hear power is back up for you. I am in the Philly area and have lost power today for 5-6 hours at this point, and not scheduled to be back on until tomorrow afternoon!...however, last year I invested in a whole house generator, so my family (and fish) are good for a few days.....great peace of mind too!

The old lady and I are talking about these things right now. I'm sure I wasn't pleasant last night but I've had the rays for awhile and their family too noy yo mention all the other pets. I'm going to go to the petsmart to see what they have as soon as I can get my car moving.

i have family in chicago, i hear is rough right now. i suggest moving to arizona ;) i wont tell anyone u have rays.

I haven't fed them. 30% water change tonite then again tomorrow. Any other advice is appreciated, their still doing good.

Glad its working out. I think your game plan is solid. I'm in Madison so I feel your pain. That Arizona idea doesn't sound like a bad one right about now!

Rays are still doing good. Honestly, anywhere sounds better than here. On a side note my car didn't make it......inches from its parking spot.
