Oh man I never thought it would happen to me

It's even worse when you don't fall asleep and are standing at the tank thinking all is well, when in reality the other end of the siphon has whipped out of the tub onto the bathroom floor.

I drained about 25 gal on to my floor it went throw to the down stairs. Then I had a little over flow one other time that was no big deal. Yeah it's not a fun thing to do.

That's what I did!!!

ouch that stinks, i have come close many times but have not had it happen yet....though i am very absent minded so imagine it is just a matter of time.

Pythons are as dangerous as they are helpful, haha. I've had a couple close calls, luckily not as bad as some of the other stories though.

When I had first purchased my python, the first time I used it I had a close call. Since I have sand as substrate in my tanks, I take off the plastic vac attachment and just use the hose to suck the debris off the bottom without disturbing the sand too much. Anyways, after doing that, it came time to fill it back up. Without really thinking much about it, I began to fill the tank without the plastic vac attached. Once it got close to being full, I thought 'alright, almost time to shut the water off', and that's when it hit me. How was I going to make it to the bathroom to shut the water off with this hose in my hand? I attempted to wedge it underneath filters to no avail. Finally, my tank got as full as it could get, so in a panic I swung the hose out of my 30gal that I was filling, and into my 60gal that had a bit of water evaporation. I began shouting for my brother who's room was at the other end of the house as my 60gal's water level began it's rise. After a few minutes of shouting, luckily he finally heard me and shut the water off as my 2nd tank was now rimmed with water. Lesson learned: Fill the tank using the plastic vac attachment, as it has the valve to stop waterflow.

The second experience was about a month ago. I went to begin the waterchange procedure, attaching the adaptor to the faucet. Right as I got it tightened, I heard a 'crack' sound. Much to my dismay, I figured out that I cracked the plastic part that attaches to the male/female adaptor part. Out of curiosity, I decided to test it out. Turned out that only a couple drips would leak out of the crack while the water was running, so I thought 'great, I can get one more cleaning out of it'. And I was right - for the most part, up until the filling (those fillings are damn unlucky). Somehow, the cracked part managed to hold up through the draining and the filling, but as soon as I turned the valve on the plastic vac to stop the water, I heard a loud 'pop'-sound, and then the sound of water gushing. I rush to the bathroom and as soon as I turn the corner into it, I was being sprayed with water from the sink. The whole python adaptor burst off the tap, leaving it without a diffuser and just blasting water everywhere. There was a huge dripping puddle on the roof above the sink, and sprayed all over the rest of the roof, walls, and floor. Absolutely soaked my whole bathroom. Lesson Learned: Don't trust a broken accessory, or be prepared for a lot of wet towels.
