Oh no here I go again. Silly Idea Alert.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
use regualr vegetable oil
once in college we had discussion about it and friend of myne actually did it
filled up aquarium with vegetable oil and it performed much better , better even then water cooling system, he had previously installed on other pc
check youtube

There are easier ways than water cooling...which I have done, and ruined one very nice video caused by a leak. I now only air cool, but with choosing the right case, heat sinks, and fans, it can be done just as quiet as a water cooled rig with a air cooled radiator.

I did not even know that there were water/liquid cooled PCs. interesting
My wife says "real computers already have radiators"
What do you want from a retired Cobol programmer.

John I think the PC you showed was filled with Mineral Oil.

I think the idea would work if the tank was large enough and there was not anti-corrosive agents needed.

Keep the "silly" ideas coming!

You are correct.. Was thinking of it for fun..

Sorry forgot to add that fact

thats a good idea , i hate my server cause is too noisey , i might stil it into 10 gall tank

get a better cpu i say

Hum???? It has nothing to do with the cpu, any cpu provided with the recommended heat sink and fan running in a normal environment would stay cool. Water cooling or other exotic cooling comes into play when your running it in a place that has high air temperatures or your overclocking your cpu. Side note I love how people spend so much money on water cooling to get another 300 - 600 Mhz like it really makes a difference. Overclocking is like over filtering only their for bragging rights.

Using the tank water to cool the computer would not work that great since most tanks are 75-82 degrees. It is a drop from the computer temp but probably would not provide enough heat transfer to be significant.

I've had 2 liquid cooled pc's myself and built about 6 others for friends. I have experience.

I disagree normal CPU's running between 32c - 44c in IDLE, most tanks are 27c or less. No one uses water cooling for the IDLE cpu its for when that bad boy is cranking along and tries to shoot upto 50c or 60c. You are now talking about 2x colder, so the heat will keep disapating trying to bring it to a balance. Also consider this, most homes during the summer are at least 70f, so that means the water in your water cooler is at least 70f, so you think that the 6 - 10 degrees difference in the temperature of that water versus the tank water will really have that much effect?

You might just try getting new fans, older fans are louder, and some cheaper fans can be really noisy; although if your running big boys like 120mm then yea its going to be loud. I have a NAS that thing is so loud I had to move it into the basement. This winter with it being like 38 - 44 in the basement at all times is the first time its been quite.

Any oil would actually work as a great cooling agent because there is no H20 in oil that can damage the circuits from electricity..

Its been done yes.... you'll have a better chance with a liquid cooling than you do using the oil tho.. because with the mineral oil.. It actually gets to messy... as the whole thing has to be vacuum sealed.. where as liquid cooling u can still add and upgrade to the computer...

cooling and all that other junk is a waste. just use that money and get a better cpu.

voila

Repeating previous statement for you.
