So I am drilling some garage sale tanks that I scored to make a grow out/fry tanks. 4 tanks feeding into one sump. I got two tanks done, started drilling the third, and POP I guess the sides of the tank was tempered glass. :irked:
The second pic is the set up with the top 30g missing. sorry about the mess, it is a work in progress. The third is the view from out side the room were you can see only two of the inset tanks. (picture before the goof up)

I plan on showing a before and after on this project when its done.

Looks like I need to do some MFK research on tank repair!

Congrats, that tank is shards. LOL Well, get some silicone and a sheet of glass, and you're good to go.

Same thing happened to me,Who would have guessed theyd bother making a 30g tempered:screwy:
Never happened with any 20g one of my 55g back popped too though:irked:

Well that sucks. How about acrylic next time?

Yep, that's tempered glass.

Quick question for you: Did it shatter when you started drilling or when you were about at break out? I have a theory for cutting/drilling tempered glass but I haven't had the time to play with it.

I've blown out 4 tanks because of tempered glass.... I can get about 3/4 of the way through it before it shatters. It is verrrrry hard on the drill bits and will just about ruin one in 3 or 4 trys.

just a thought,, would it help if you clamped a pice of wood to the glass you were drilling
