Ohhh my god !!!.........LOOK !!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Danny Boy.....thats what all the ladies call me.......whats up Dan I am Dan as well. let me start by saying welcome to MFK, my home, my sanctuary, my venting spot. I have been here since day one and i dont need you coming in here stealing my spotlight. hahahaha. naw, i am actually pretty much involved in every moral debate. the thing is with these forums is that there is only so much knowledge you can pass along over the internet, once you get the questions such as "how do i fix my filter?", " how do i breed my discus?" you start running out of replys to the topic because most everyone on here gives the same advice............BUT when it gets to peoples views on things such as using feeders or eating(they call me MFE) your SO CALLED pets there is lots of room for misinterpretation and moral debate. i DO NOT use goldfish or any store bought fish as a feeder unless they have been properly quarantined and fed a nutritious diet. i also feel that if i buy fish and they get too big, and i have noone who can provide them with a proper home that it would be more worth my while to eat the animal than take it back and trade it in at the LFS for minimal store credit. so whos to say that when i bought that fish it was bought as a pet. i buy mine as specimens and VERY FEW have ever turned into pets. so anyways, i guess im just rambling......death is death and that is the only thing in life that is certain for ANYTHING on planet earth that is living. so, i am always glad to see more new members show up, and i love a new person to debate with.......when me and Benfica420 met we werent on good terms, we both bashed eachother.....now though we have grown to respect eachothers differences and we sometimes jokingly crack snide remarks at eachother, its been the same way with a few others. noone will get along with everyone all the time. but you have to know that us MFK'ers are diehards who will help any of our members in any way we can and that starts by bashing the newbie who comes in talkin smack to an established member about why our site is crap......we love MFK and i for one dont know where id be today without it. Thanks guys!!!! youre like my support group..but anyway Danny Boy...just let DanDanUK have his views and you have yours. or i might just have to ban you. hahahahah. naw man im not that cool....YET....maybe one day ill have that power. hahah. but anyways from one Dan to two others.....keep this **** real MFK4LIFE!!!!

A good example of how hypocritical our civilization is. Mad cow disease came about because intensive farming perverted the food chain and beef ended up in cow's stomachs.
It was "developed" in the UK and plagues the world. It is ironic that the same country prohibits feeding fish to fish. Fish are piscivorous after all. Cows aren't cowrnivorous.
It is believed BSE ( Mad Cow Disease ) came about from feeding cows with spinal tissue and brain tissue from diseased sheep, sheep have a disase called 'scrapie' that is a TSE ( transmissible spongiform encephalopathy , scrapie is a disease of goats and sheep that is worldwide so although the UK were the first country to actually admit there was a problem, the UK didnt 'develop' it as you stated.
You are right, intensive farming is to blame, feeding crap protein and hormones to increase beef yield is always a dangerous thing and it certainly bit the farmers in the bum so to speak. The TSN x RTC hybrid was 'developed' to maximise food fish potential harvest

I think the worry is more over the 'cruelty to animals' aspect of the feeding live feeders rather than dead and LFS worries over prosecutions for selling live fish just for food.

The reason Mad Cow Disease showed up first in the UK was the use of sheep remains in animal feed as KOD has said. It might not have been where it first developed but it was diagnosed there first, they were also one of the countries that tried to minimize wastage by using scrap remains in that fashion, it could have just as easily showed up anywhere animal remains are incorporated into animal feed.

yeah but if anyones gonna scare the planet its either us limeys or the americans!

The point I was trying to make is that it is typical for Western civilization to invent and introduce unnatural and harmful processes, consequences of which the whole world has to suffer, while, at the same time, outlawing the perfectly normal diet justifying it with with nothing more than weak nerves and false humanity.

Another example in the UK would be the pollution of its grounwaters with Prozac, while making St Johns Wort (Hypericum Perforatum, a natural and perfectly harmless alternative to Prozac in use by many nations for thousands of years) a prescription-only drug.

Hi Shekes, I dont mean to be getting on your case, especially as I agree with the first paragraph wholeheartedly, but,

Hypericum or St Johns Wort is available for sale at any health food shop without prescription, and it is the female hormone Oestrogen that they worry about in the water courses because it is not biodegradeable, this will be the same in any system where the sewage is treated and then returned to consumers

This quote is direct from the UK drinking water inspectorate
'The Environment Agency’s report and our assessment of the structure of Prozac (Fluoxetine) show it to be biodegradable, and it will therefore be broken down by the sewage treatment process and in watercourses.

The problem is that news gossip and scandal make for Chinese Whispers across the Atlantic.

The point of this thread is for whether the community of MFK are barbaric for feeding live fish to their predators, and the answer is definitely no, the majority of people who I see on here are passionate about their fish and are very knowledgeable.

Where I tend to see missings is when a video is made of animals being killed for entertainment, but also at the end of the day, as long as there is a proviso in the heading, then it is the viewers choice whether they wish to watch it or not.

Keep up the good work, I enjoy the topics and debates and lets keep it friendly eh?????

Steve :)

:D HAHAH I think they are talking about my thread. Oh well you don't like you know what you can do!
Guppy is right, my fish my chioce. I breed these guy all the time and give extras to the lfs to sell all the time. I do my part and ensure others can enjoy fish as well. Every now and then you have a few bad eggs. The is always something that will eat those eggs. They just become part of the food chain!

My bad fellow subject, my bad. I was misinformed at some point. I have been living in the Americas for over a decade now and the info on Europe I find online . You do need prescription for it in Ireland though.
It is your national broadcaster that I got the info on Prozac in drinking water from.
I am usually friendly and you'll have to cut me some slack since I am already uwillingly representing the Crown's interests on the Falklands conflict in Argentina.

I dont feed my fish feeders or other fish at all. Yet mfk is my home , we have different likes and dislikes we even have different beliefs on how we keep fish.

But we here have one thing in common; we love and keep ( most anyway, except for guppy ) Monster Fish and we enjoy it.

If you want to be a member that contributes, its your choice. If you dont and think of us as barbarians who do nothing but feed feeder fish all day, i respect your opinion. There are other sites out there that would better suit your needs .

Well im kinda on the same page, i've only fed them live food twice to see how they strike and act, but i mainly feed the krill@
