I just use an air pump with an air stone and it goes away.
its the food you need more surface agitation
thanks man! i also had an oily film on my water. water change does nothing...but your idea sounds great. i will try that if it ever happenes again.Typically it's either dead bacteria or excess nutrients/oils from food. A water change won't do anything. Just take some paper towels and lay them on the surface of the water, to pick up the "oil", then take them off. Works like a charm.
If you're using a sunsun filter then doesn't it have a skimmer attachment on the intake?
