I run two FX5's on a 210g and its just right. I am setting up a 300g and I plan on using the two FX5's along with two FX6's so four total. So one for every 75 gallons for me

So with double capacity FX's , do you guys get Crystal clear water for months?
Im just wondering if two or more would be adequate or should i go with the expense of overflows and bulkheads and a wet-dry sump? The expense isnt too different are the results any different?
is there any benefit to using overflows into a sump system and having a single FX6 as the return pump?

I think what they are saying is the pump on the FX's are over rated. You should probably do the sump and FX if that is your wish. Was reading here earlier you about 5 to 10 times turn over in your tank. Which means you will want the FX and at least a 2500 gph pump on your sump.
I run two on my 300g, needs 3 Imo. They don't Polish the water very well ime, I run a 1200gph power head to keep the surface agitated and airiated.

for 240-300 i personally would use like 6 just cause im one of those that
has to over filter every single tank lol or at least get 10x the turn over rate
per hour.

If you have space and handy, build a sump. 400 dollars to build a sump can eliminate buying 2 fx6.
One sump I built cost me 500 with all the media plus 175 for the pump. Next one I built cost me about 300 all said and done with the pump. I learned a few tricks and cheap media's by then.
If you want the tank to be dead silent build an internal overflow box with an external bean animal
