Ok for tankmates?

Hey, I just wanted to run this by everyone that keeps arows and see if this would be a good mix. We don't have an arowana yet, but are planning on one in the future, so I want to plan tankmates BEFORE we get one.

How would this mix work in a 375g tank (dimensions 96 x 36 x 25 Tall):

1 black arowana, 1 oscar, a few severums, 1 distichodus sexfasciatus.

Does that sound ok? Should I go with a bigger tank if I want it to work? (Yeah I know, go with a bigger tank anyway, I might, but I want to know if it would work in that size ). Would I be left with any other stocking room?

Sorry if this ends up just being a horrid mix, that's why I wanted to check beforehand, lol.

yeh it should be fine. just make sure that ure arowana is bigger than ure tankmates otherwise there could be potential problems with the oscar and whatnot. the size of the tank sounds fine. it really depends about the size of ure tankmates as wel. introduce them all at the same time so that territoy isnt picked out b4hand! good luck

Oh yeah, definately gonna make sure that the arow is big enough to take care of itself!

i would just be careful about your distichodus as they get very aggressive with age and with other fish with similar pattern

i do not put my aros at any time with cichlids, but it works for a lot of people... guess it's ok if the aro is big enough... good luck

I had an arro 15" that did real well in a 150g with an Oscar & catfish till the Arro got too big.

I had a ray with him and he ate that. Everybody said it was impossible but it did happen and ended up being an expensive meal.

My arro eventually got pretty agressive and nipped the O. I guess it all depends on the temperment and size of the fish.

Yeah I know. Most headstanders have a similar temperment. I have a Leporinus desmotes with a marbled headstander and oddly enough that works out, but it's not something I would normally try. They do have little confrontations, but no actual biting or anything, it's actually kind of funny to watch.
Yeah though, the distichodus won't be with anyone of similar pattern, or any fish that can't defend themselves, so it should be ok. (Theoretically)

There's always a risk mixing any fish, at least it seems that your experience isn't extremely common with this species. Hopefully the size of the tank will lower any chances of aggression between everyone.

I think it will be ok with the oscar and sevs. In general oscars and severums seem to be pretty low key unless they're crowded into too small a tank, so I don't see why they'd necessarily mess with the arow. If there ends up being any aggression we'll simply move them I guess.

At least I haven't gotten anyone saying I absolutely shouldn't try this mixture at all, so I wasn't completely off the mark, lol.

should be okay, that tank is bigger then u think and should be fine for a long while. i have 4 aros in my 8x2.5x2.5 with a butti and fh and the aros never bother them. only bad thing with my tank is the aros kinda snip each other sorta kinda. and the butti and the fh kinda disagree all day.

u should be able to add more fish in there. or i would anyway

I figured so. I'll just see have to see after it's set up how many more fish I think I can add. I have trouble visualizing in my head because I don't own a tank that large yet.

Could a FH get along with oscars and severums? I like the way they look but don't really know anything about their personality.

Aro's are really an art to keep. Your tank size sounds good, the size issue has been addressed, Aro's sometimes have so much bravado when they still are fragile. I have seen severums swing both ways on the aggression pendulum, usually it comes down to the individual fish. Aro A may get along with some Oscars, while another Oscar might might really hurt a young arrogrant Aro. Severums seem to just buffalo alot and not actually damage. However, my neons vanished and the severum was the only suspect large enough. I think the greatest challenge and reward is a mature Aro, so I would always watch out for the Aro first. (But then again you posted this in the Aro forum, so of course I am biased!) Best of luck, I'm still working on the "dream tank".
