Get a male grade A quality Flowerhorn... some can be very mean but always active and full of unique features like their hump, flowerline and beautiful colors! :thumbsup:
 
Get a Largemouth Bass fry, they are a load of fun.
 
I'm all for Bichirs myself. But its really up to you, it's supposed to make YOU happy.
 
When choosing a fish, you might want to consider the maintenance involved, what type of food are you able to provide. Feeders can be expensive. I found that Senegal bichirs can be trained to eat pellets. It's active too, low maintenance, in that water quality is not a high priority, and looks very prehistoric. So if you don't have time for high maintenance fish, there is a good choice. If you can provide high maintenance for fish, then by all means, follow your heart. :thumbsup:
 
get a larger tank and then come back. if you cant afford it then you are out of luck and go find another hobby. don't torture fish in a tank that is a mere 55g. monster fish do not do well in anything less than 100g. the more room, the more natural it is. for EVERYTHING.

There are plenty of predatory fish that can live in a 55G for life. cyang don't be a jerk, he is looking for help, not to be turned away from fish keeping all together.

I agree that a bichir would be really cool.

My personal preference would be to go after a pleco tank, but that is just me...

Planted tanks are also great to do with 55s, although that takes a lot of time work, and effort.

It is my understanding that "Monster Fish"can come in all different sizes,i appreciate everybodys help.Up until now i have thourghly enjoyed this forum and have learned alot from everybody,but i guess every forum has got to have at least 1 jerk and it looks like i found him.Right now I'm leaning towards a Bichir(if i can find 1 around here)or a Rainbow Wolf fish(I'll have to order 1 of them online)I also like the "Flowerhorn" but all we can get around here is the "Green"strain wich to my understanding is pretty boring looking(lack of Cichlid hump and color)I wish Snakeheads werent illegal,i could go for 1 of the dwarf species.
 
clow knives will outgrow the tank, along with the aros. Some long time residents would be: large synodontis ($10-30) , african brown knives( $5-15), bichers($5-500), african butterfly($10-15), 1 carapo knifefish, 10" pictus gracillous
