ok guys, lets see those vieja argentea.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well here goes as promised, if you notice the big male is out swimming out in the open and his mate and the other I suspect females are in the flower pots staying out of his way until one of them decides its time to spawn, so far he as spawned a total of 4 times. With spring around the corner I will try to induce them to spawn soon. Currently there are a total of six in the tank. I'll try an take a photo of them while they are feeding.

man thats pretty cool. read these guys were hard to breed in a tank.

not really, with the proper diet (not too much protein) and enough tank space with regular water changes they are no different that any other central american cichlid out there.

what do you mean modest_man? Should I use like a 10k 0r 18k bulb?

I'm also curious about this. Which bulb brings out their best colors?

These pics are a few months old, but they are the best I have of my girl :)

A lot of people don't know that the vieja species in particular needs a lot of algae based food. People just feed them cichlid bio gold, or cichlid gold or other foods made for carnivores but they need more vegtable matter in thier diet. I feed cichlid Excel along with, bio gold, and cichlid gold.

figured i'd up date him on here, can see some diff in him that way.
