In the last couple days, I have picked up 9 (maybe 11) tanks for less than $80! I got the first five the other day and am having the rest delivered soon (4 or 6).... Problem is, I am going to have to move (really, started looking at houses!) just to fit them all!!!!! The smaller ones are about 20ish gallons, the bigger are pushing 90 to 120+ gallons.... :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

ANYWAYS, to the questions....
A few of the tanks are very dirty from sitting awhile. I have looked and read all the posts I can find about using vinegar with a razor, but, even with a LOT of work it is still not coming as clean as I want. I might just turn them into sumps if they fail to come clean BUT was wondering what else I can try? I read some use CLR but, worried about the fish afterward if not rinsed out well enough.

Finally, I didn't have a lot of time to look around much, so forgive me if I overlooked this, but a couple of the tanks I got in all this were home built (30ish & 50ish gallon). While they were built very well and hold water, I want to add trim to the top and bottom to help with strength and looks. How do I go about this? Make my own, order them from somewhere?

Anyways, again sorry if I overlooked any of this on other posts. I did look some!

Try the search function coz recently a was reading a thread in the setup and filtration section that was talking about this exact problem, and a lot of people put their in the opinions...

So maybe its worth checking out to see if you can find it... otherwise, you could just wait to see what ideas other people here have...

But i have to say 9 - 11 tanks for $80 is an absolute STEAL... good job on that score...

Yeah, I know and I have been looking around. I think I am just going to get a couple replacement rims for a 90 gallon, then cut them to fit mine but leave the corners intact to keep the strength.

And on the cleaning, was just hoping that there was some new method that worked better.. The vinegar method is working, just taking a LOT longer than I would of liked.. Been working on one tank for 3 days now....

Will keep looking around but any additional advice would be great!! :D

lol it sounds funny that you don't know how many tanks you made the deal for, but even at 9 it's a great deal, 2 more is a bonus. sorry i can't help with the trim question

I have used CLR before on a 125 without hurting the fish. I did perform a ridiculous amount of rinsing it out before filling up the tank and adding the fish.

I have also used 0000 steel wool on cleaning old tanks. DO NOT USE anything more coarse than that, especially SOS pads. It will end badly!

We're getting the tanks from a friend of ours, [I'm Xdude's girlfriend]
They were his step dads tanks, he no longer wants them so he's giving them to us for a great deal :)
He doesn't even know how many there are, lol.

I'm probably taking 2 maybe 3 tanks, I really wanna do a saltwater tank :)

Well, I guess that will be my backup plan if we are not able to get them as clean as we want, and it looks like that might be the cast with the one 50 gallon (which my loving girlfriend has, as you can see, claimed as her own!). I know not to use steel wool, but the #0000 kind, I will have to get and test out!

Maybe 3? :grinno: Um, babe, we agreed on 2 IF you did your part of the work (cleaning, setting up, research, ect.)...

Excuse me everyone, gotta go have a chat with my girl... :screwy: ...lol.
