Alright well i am very lucky that i will be getting another Red Fin Pickerel in the mail tomorrow (My other one died a couple days after getting it because of really bad fungus) so this time i want to do it right and keep this one alive. He should arrive tomorrow. I have Fungus Clear by jungle to cure the fungus and i have a empty tank ready for him. Also i have about 30 feeders ready for food. Any advice or tips on something i should do to get ready? (also i wont add salt to help cure the fungus this time)

Make sure to have some floating plants or some kind of cover so that he will feel secure and wont get stressed out. Make sure the tank is cycled. How big is the tank and what kind of feeders do you have?

I suggest you go ahead and hit those feeders with the Fungus Clear. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Ive had the tank up for about 3 total weeks, But Ive had some blue gill in there and the old pickerel that died was in there. I completely changed all the water inside the tank cause the other pickerel was in there with his fungus. Also the tank is a 20 long, i do have a few plants so ill need more.

That'll work for quite a while. He'll need a 55gal once he outgrows that 20gal. Make sure that any tankmates are about the same size as him or they will be eaten. If you start young, pickerels are not that hard to pellet train. I started when my grass pickerel was 4", now he eats pellets, crickets, frozen krill and live feeders. And keep a tight lid.

Yeah i made sure to get a tight lid, but i heard it was hard to get them to eat anything other then feeders. I got rosy reds so there about the perfect size. Also once this one is fully treated for his fungus ill add one of my baby blue gill which are about the same size. My 50gal should be ready for him once he gets big enough (of course ill have to clear it out and sell the fish in it)

Its pretty easy. Hold the rosy red above the water so that he can see it, drop it in. Eventually, he will grab anything that hits the water. Try crickets after a while, they float. Once he is grabbing crickets off the surface, toss in a pellet, then another cricket, then another pellet. Do it with every feeding, and he will start eating the pellets. Make sure to keep it varied though.

I suggest you leave the bluegill out. Pickerel are shy and do not appreciate active tankmates.

i could do that. Just not sure what ill have, most likely just leave him by himself.

I have a senegal bichir, banjo catfish and clown pleco about the same size as him if not a bit larger. They dont bother each other at all.
