My dovii and umbee recognize me. When ever they see me, they only flare but never glass bang. They wait for food when they see me, but when they see my friends they are glass banging and are going nuts. It's actually entertaining to watch how they react. I have a black friend and the only cichlid that actually acts strange around him is the red devil. That red devil is terrified of him, I believe cichlids can see colors and probably react to them differently.

Yep. I'm the only one they see on a regular basis. I have friends who come over, but not frequently enough for the fish to get to know them.
Other people don't phase my fish at all, this thread is funny though haha

there could be a scientific explanation for why the fish might act differently to dark and light colours, besides the fact I thought in America if you are mixed race then you are just considered "Black" I see loads of actors and musicians that look mixed race but are refered to as being "african american". My school in europe had lots of mixed race kids and none of them not even ones that were 3/4 white had light coloured afros so you have really unique cool hair!
