Basically i've had my convict cichlids for a few months now, and today i just did a large water change (got distracted by the phone, local LFS rang me to tell me my order was in go figure) and took out much more water (close to 50%) then i intended
and since the water change my pair of convict cichlids have been well lip-locking constantly or swimming around together extremely fast and stirring up stand.
Any idea what's going on, should i worry or what :)

most likely fighting i thought nothing of it to. i saw my angel ram and Bolivian ram doing it before i went to sleep a few weeks ago and woke up to a dead Bolivian ram, then my other angel ram the next day :nilly: my angel ram is a jerk :(

Oh its common. THis is the right water chemistry that you have setup. If the rams are fighting it is for dominance and that happens only when the water is good. They have got nothing to worry abt now. Put in a female and watch the fun. Measure your water parameters now and try to standardize it

there convict cichlids, ones female, ones male...
and the male just attacked me when i went to replant an ornament *sigh* he hurts to, quite a nip.

I thought female convicts had orange bellies? They both look male to me.

Both of those convicts appear to be males (females have pink bellies) exhibiting territorial behavior, not male/female spawning behavior.

yea you'd see different behavior if that was female, lip locking is a male dominance thing

that being said, dont add a new female to the mix
2 m 1 f could mean trouble

If you use a hose to remove the water during a change place it so that it will stop drawing water when you reach the amount of water you want removed.
I use a 1/2 hose to syphon the water to the shower, and use the water from the tank to clean the filter. That way I do not kill the bacteria in the filter media.
