OKay, So I'm getting another Lei today, trading one of my FH's for it.

It's going to be around 10cm.. or 4inch or something.

And I really want to try tankmates with it. SO far been reading through that "jardini tankmates" thread, long as but interesting read, especially with all the savage jar cases, awesome fish.

But i had a different experience, My last attempt went the other way though, my fh ended up chomping my Lei, instead of the other way around, so that was my mistake and miscalculation, my lei wasn't mature enough to hold its own.

SO question is, are Lei's temperament like Jar's? I know most people say they are suppose to be more docile than their jar counterpart, but do they still have the hard rep?

Also was thinking of putting my 5inch Red Bay Snook with my Lei, Anyone know if this will be possible??

Thanks

it all depends on the individual fish(some can be peaceful or killers) and i wouldnt put anything with an aro under 6"-7"

You must've missed the advice I gave in your other thread

It's always a good recommendation to keep small arowana by themselves until 5-6" long. Do not mix arowana with large cichlids until the aro is 10-11" long and the aro should be 2x the length of the cichlid.

Sorry for your loss.

Oh my bad, okay then, damn I was hoping cause Red Bays don't seem as territorial as most other cichlids, But I will take your advice, and thank you, for you both getting back to me. I'll post pics when i get it. On that I know you said 10" till you an put them with cichlids, but is it even a good idea in the first place?? Like with the aggression and territorial nature of the cichlids, can a Lei, hold its own??

ALso can a group of Lei's be kept together, I know ideally most people say 8-10 juvies, but how about 3 ? Is that asking for trouble?

I know my question's seem obvious and maybe even dumb, but have you guys had any success with keeping a group of aussie aros? It's just everyone refers to the Jars, so was wondering if same goes for the Lei. thank you, and sorry for being pain, just want to get it right this time around

Unless you have multiple tanks to house the aros in, in case of problems, keeping multiple aros is not a good idea.

There have been a couple of communites with multiple jardini, don't recall any atempts with leis.

Leis can be just as aggressive as Jars but like others have said depends on the fish.
Have not kept Leis in tanks for many years but a comm is possible, though in my experience the dynamics change when they reach maturity.
