  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that sucks. must be old old hard water stains. i would soak it.

soaking in in vinegar over night to see what happens... yes its very old... and has been through alot... even the joplin tornado :P

kaosu... I take the pinto filtration comment back... your tanks are beautiful... lol im glad we have the same filters :P

^_^..thank you i love my tanks..all done with low low budget,
If you look threw my Prickly suclpin tank around page 6 i get the old 40 gallon and show it being set up you can see how thick the glass is its crazy.

wow... we literally have the same equipment... is that the penguin bio wheel 200... You really have a gift for aqua scaping.... I think your glass is a little thicker... Probably bullet proof... I am not using mine atm It holds water but I need to re-caulk it, 21 years old... better safe than sorry. Is there a tag on that tank with date?

yeah thats a penguin boil wheel 200!...this is amusing.
iv upgraded the filtration on that. the 200 is on the other end of the tank now and i squeezed a cascade 300 on the other end..woot lots of flow now!! im up to 500gph on that tank.(over kill i know but i looooveee my sculpin and they love moving water)
found the cascade on sale at a LFS for 35$ and couldn't pass it up.

yeah..i think it might be bullet proof, I didn't reseal mine cuz......well Im lazy I set mine out side and filled it..let it sit for like...4 days and figured it was fine and went about setting it up!..it should be fine ....i hope. the people did say it had been dry for a few years with lizards in it, but its been up for 6 months with out a problem.
and as far as i can tell no..no sticker.

most of the decorations in the tank were collected by me..logs and rocks, play sand, and plants are all grown out by me from small bunches or trades.

you know... your right... it should be fine on the orginal caulk. 500GPH!!?!?!?!? over achiver! well it must be working cuz the fish look great! ever try adding plants into the HOB?

hah! just did this a few weeks ago i have java moss growing like mad out of the flow of the cascade filter. Out side in the older filters i have some wild mint i collected that has exploded in them the roots hanging out of the flow..i should get pics of my outside tanks.

Iv also grown pothos clippings in them with allot of success.

ahem.... PIX PIX PIX never tried mint! lol ever try a pineapple?

lol ill snap some pics when i have light

and nope..lol cant say i have ever tried growing a pineapple in a filter:P

Also I have built up white residue on my filter and since I have been posting about them, I think its time for an overhaul.

How Do I remove this... Sad to say but I even resorted to chemicals, soaking, super hot water. Im totally dumb founded

I have 2 of those filters. They still work perfectly after 20+ years of continuous use.
I may have had to replace the impeller on one, but that is about it.

This is the media I use for them--available pretty much anywhere and is completely unchanged since they came out. The only change is the internal plastic frame. It is more sturdy now and does not bow like they used to.

The white residue is normal. I always get it on those, but we have hard water here. I can usually just flake it off. Otherwise, good vinegar works, usually. Otherwise you will have to resort to a product like CLR or LA's Totally Awesome Lime, Calcium and Rust remover. They are safe as long as all the residue gets rinsed off-they are used for coffee pots. I used to worry about the build-up, but no one sees it but me.

If you use a razor blade, rub the edge on some metal first to dull it just a bit, so it doesn't shave the plastic along with the build-up.
