What kinds are these? Ok, Blue is from Brazil and Green from Peru, where is Red from? Thanks. Of all three, what is the order of rarity?

Blue (rarest), Red, then greens. Those shore do look like greens...;). John normally gets his from Peru, seldom does he get them from Brazil. Not entirely sure where the reds come from, as some people say Brazil while others say Peru.

The Atabapo lents are the same thing that Rapps was selling a couple weeks ago as red lents. They exhibit an orangish/red oceli around their humeral spot.

Negro lents are very simialr to Atabapo lents but have a greenish yellow cast to their bodies with the humeral oceli being more golden.

Then there are the VZ lents that have a plain humeral spot with no oceli. They typically have the most colorful finnage.

This is what Oliver said to me after I asked him about the coloration differences between the lents. :

They occur in the Rio Negro,
and lower tributaries of the Orinoco (Atabapo, Cassiquare and Ventuari).
They all look the same. The individual difference is diet and the mood of
the fish. In breeding colour they have more orange.

This is also true for the Cichla and all other fish, just because people on
the boards think they know something does not mean that it is in any way
correct. If you look at wild fish you can not look at an individual. The
same is true for the Cichla. If you feed your Crenicichla low fat high
protein diet they look much better than with other foods, pH, temperture,
ORP, lighting, breeding season all that has to do with the colour of fish.
The location of these fish does not matter that much.

I kinda disagree with him about this on several aspects, but am not really wanting to get into an argument with him about it. What'cha think Marcus?

He's correct in that the fish are highly variable but I disagree that there are no geographical variances. While diet, lighting & water parameters are all factors in their coloration and intensity, they are not going to make a fish develop an oceli where one did not exist previously.

Thank you!! Exactly what i was trying to tell him! I wasn't doing a very good job at convincing him though so i let it alone. There are DEFINATELY geographical variants, and that not all the lents look the same. I don't get how he can say that and then sell high red marmoratas and the like.

nice info Scat...

as usual someone will pay. from pics I've seen there can def be locale differences in any fish. Guess it's up to those scientific peeps to divide em up properly.

would luv to find a male cobra though to go with my female.

basically gets imports from neotropicalfauna. Forgot who mentioned that site before.

as usual, ask and he'll check with the importer. I was asking for cinctas of course and he can get em. 4-5" for around $40-50.

Aye, Randy tis a GREAT guy....;) HIGHLY recommend him!! He'll bend over backwards and do his best to get you your fish...;)

That price, of course, is just an estimate. Before import, my estimates are a little on the high side just to cover all the "unknown" expenses that can arise during shipping. Actual prices have the potential to be lower as long as everything runs smooth.

And thanks Taz for putting up my info! :headbang2
