Also, what happened to poets? To think they were seen as celebrities and well respected members of societies about 2-3 centuries ago. Now, they are a dying breed.

i went to see saul williams perform this month.
spoken word is a pretty popular phenomenon right now. i'm not directly involved but have a best friend who is on the outskirts of it. it all seems really incestuous, though, very cliquey, not much variation in style sometimes...a lot of people just talk about getting published. :\ slam becomes more about being entertaining and funny/popular rather than about meaning, craft and concept.
luckily saul williams has been able to expand, get into music, write the first movie he acted in...
i am not a fan, but i do respect him a great deal now.
i also respect the lolcats...they've given netspeak a home and mascot. that keeps them out of highschool english papers.
one of my favorite online "animated films" about netspeak is called "tales from the L337" by chris coutts. he has a hamlet and romeo/juliet one. it completely butchers poetry...you can search for it, it's still online.

yea its a gold fish, he wont eat anything thats not living. I seen him eat crill once but he didnt eat for like 3 weeks, so i put 20 feeders in there and he ate 17 within 2 weeks.. he was just finishing up the last 3 the night i took the picture
