I don't agree with that at all...my breeder rats recognize me (they've figure out that whenever I show up, food magically shows up in the cage) and if you treat them well, they won't see you as a threat even when you are removing babies that they are nursing. I've never been one to really like rats, but since I started breeding them I've gotten a better appreciation for their intelligence, and yes, personalities.
 
The breeder rats I have handled never bit me... at least you have the option to rear them. Here... rats are illegal in the province.
