you do know that oscars normally grow over 12" if they have the room, right? the term for them only growing to 10 or 11" due to lack of space to grow further is called stunting.. haven't you heard? bigger tanks are fairly easy to find cheap on craigslist.
why would you keep an O in a 40 gallon tank?
