Okay so I had a baby 2 in pacu in a 10 gallon tank (got a grow out tank) and after about 3 months I had him he had this little hole in his side body. I had him with a oscar so I just thought they fought so I got put him in my huge bowl About 30 gallons with a 50 gallon filter attached but the hole get bigger everyday. Soon I saw 3 holes. One on his body. Smaller one on the other side and then a small one on his head! I started freaking out. About a week later with the problem there were little wite worms I think comming out of the holes. Is this a parasite? I believe he fought it off and was able to heal and live but has 2 scars. I fed him frozen blood worms, sometimes wild caught crickets, and pellets. How do I prevent this from happening?
Sorry no pics

I'm not sure if this is real or not, but there's a lot of problems with what you're doing.

How is that possibe? How do u make the tank too big?

What am I doing wrong?

If you aren't a troll you are grossly undereducated.

You are feeding wild caught crickes and wonder why you have parasite problems?

Pacu grow about an inch a month their first 18 months of life. A 200 gallon tank will not last much more than a year before it is simply too small. A bowl? A 10 gallon tank for 3 months? Please tell me you are joking. Even Michael Vick took better care of his dogs than that!

Oscars need 75 gallons for the first one, more than that if you want two.

You have put baby fish that grow rapidly into an environment that is heinously too small and then fed them inappropriately. You could be doing 3x daily water changes of 90% and you could not keep that water clean. Something tells me you aren't even doing one daily water change of 90%, let alone 3 of them.

I use more than 10 gallons of water when I transport fish, and you asked the fish to LIVE in that for several months?!?!?! Of course they are all sick.

FYI pacu are vegetarians. Switch to feeding it banana chips, green beans, potatoes, broccoli and carrots before it dies of malnutrition.

:iagree:

Gosh am i really that bad. I was able to move my pacu to a 125 gallon tank. Sorry I finally know. I am still sort of a newb in fish keeping. But been studying my ass off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feed them store bought crickets and everything goes fine. I do not belive they grow a in a month. It is still pretty small. It is about 5 inches. I still put him in a 125 tho.

You can believe the world if flat if you'd like, that won't change what the growth rate of a pacu is. Ye,s they do grow that fast.

You are feeding it a carnivorous diet. Its a vegetarian. In addition to stunting, its being malnourished.

Keep doing the research. A 125 will be a good environment for the fish for at least the next 6-8 months. You have bought yourself a good window of time. You are going to need a new plan after that though. The pacu will break the 125 if you don't find a new plan.

Wow okay...... I am getting serious info on fish tank sizes and need to think. Might as well build a giant pond huh.... Maybe about 700 gallons.
