OMG my LFS is evil, pure evil!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow, i didnt know how bad some lfs's were with feeders, my lfs keeps 3 60 or so gallon tanks full of

tank 1-guppies
tank 2-rosies
tank 3-goldfish

all in perfect shape and nice and happy. till they get eaten.

get a tank and breed your own if you can't find healthy ones or get a dip net and catch some mosquito fish and breed those like guppies . your own supply of safe healthy feeders
but I agree with the above statments 100% never buy ANY animal that they won't show you were it lives there is often an ugly reason why not.

My LFS has had a few tanks go "bad" and I tell them about it. Always on my next visit the problem is fixed or is being fixed. They actually care about their fish at least and if something is wrong they will make an effort to fix the problem.

After making a few posts about their less-than-healthy feeder guppy supply (which I didn't think was too abnormal), I've realized how EVIL they are. Pure Hellspawn!.....................I'm seriously thinking of getting a job there to see how horrific that guppy tank is.

Breed your own feeders.....

My favourite store has the feeder tanks in the backroom purely because they can fit more 'show' tanks in the floor space. Whats better.

1. 10 square feet of space used for showing off feeders.
2. 10 square feet of space used for displaying some nice new cichlids for sale?

As a LFS employee, I usually try to convince people not to buy feeders, guppies in particular, unless absolutely necessary. Our feeder ponds are out in the store, having them in the backroom unfortunately seems to encourage an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality.

Oh, just to add, I wouldn't mind if they just kept it in the backroom, but the fact that they call it "employee only" region and refuse to let customers in there is pretty suspicious.

But good news! I actually found 2 stores that carry feeders and let you see what you're getting first. I actually had no idea this was the standard practice at many places, so my alarms didn't even go off initially when the evil LFS hid their guppies. The main thing that angers me is: healthy feeders in their own tanks versus all-diseased feeders to sell to customers.

at work we have all of our feeders in 20 gallon tanks on the floor, with aquaclear 110s on them, we keep probaly 2000 at a time in each tank. soon we will be doing a total redo on all the tanks at work. so the feeders will have bigger tanks.
