OMG!! OMG!! Finally Found An Ornate!!

I had an ornate female for 22 years, she spent her entire life in a 150 gallon tank. She grew to be at least 24" before she escaped from her tank while I was away for a weekend! And who says bichirs aren't flexible?

Just a word to the wise--with good conditions, happy bichirs can live a very long time! My female "BUBBLES" was my oldest, but I had several others live to their late teens! Something to think about when you purchase one--it's an investment that may require a real commitment!

Nice pick-up! Ornates grow pretty slowly, so at that size, you'll have plenty of time until it outgrows the 75, but you will need a larger tank eventually

My Ornate has grown pretty quickly. In October 2007, it was around 4 inches; now it is about 10 inches. On the other hand, I have two Senegals that have had pretty slow growth rates. A lot of it comes down to the individual fishes genes.
