OMG what just happened to my bowfin?! Someone please help!

Update!!! :
He ate today! We got a portion of live blood worms and I saw him eat a couple of bites. It's just so weird to be because it's almost as if someone scared him so much because he is skittish and will only eat with the lights off when he thinks no one is watching. He used to eat for like an hour straight with the lights on and people staring at him. So weird to me! But I hope he keeps eating and gets healthy again

bowfin will do fine at room temps (don't use a heater). and a 55 is WAY too small for a bowfin, it will outgrow that tank quickly, i hope you have somewhere to put it when it outgrows your tank. also, how come its normal for him to get stuck on the filter intake!? why don't you do something about that?

Alright well first of all a 55gal is NOT way too small for a bowfin at less than 2" I was told to even put him in a smaller tank so he could find his food easier. I DO have plans for him when he gets bigger. We have a 250gal and a 400gal waiting for him to grow. So thanks for your concern, but I do my research before I buy a fish so you telling me he will outgrow my tank is definitely not needed. And okay smarta$$...what do you suggest me doing about him getting stuck to the filter intake every now and again?

Hey the bowfin is doing great again, thanks! He is eating like a pig again and is not acting weird at all. I don't know what happened but I hope it doesn't happen again. I have a couple pics but they are from a couple weeks ago and they aren't the greatest. I will try to get better ones when he stops moving so much! lol
