I have a 20 gal with a whisper 10-30 hob and was wondering if this would be big enough tank to breed convicts for feeders? That will be the only pair in the tank until of course the fry come.

yes it would without a doubt... i would buy a male and 2 females first.... let him choose who he wants adn they will push the other female into a corner ar to the top of the tank... then remove that outcast female and you will be all set...and to be honest you could prob get away with 2 pairs in there.... just set up the tank so they both have "caves" that face opposite sides.... use a set of clay pots placed back to back in the tank..and use some fake plants or large rocks on the side of the pots to form a "wall" of "fence" between the 2 territories.... be sure the fish can get from one side of the tank to the other if need be... u dont want the plants or stones to be impenetrable.

I agree it is pleanty big if a 20 Long, but personally would not put two pair in one that size I think you will end up with at least 2 dead fish.

Well it is 24 wide, 12 deep and 16 tall, and I have not purchased the convicts yet. I also was wanting opinions on what are the coolest looking convicts to get, or is there much of a choice?

May be the most common, but I still prefer the black convicts over the pink or various marbled types. If you breeding them to sell though you wont make much if any $$$ whatever way you go, but will have better luck offloading them with anything other than the common black stripe.

Yours is a 20 tall it can still be done I just personally think they do better in 20 long. You will want at least a couple caves in there for them (they will breed either way, but convicts are less stressed with a cave to hide in). Few more rocks to make natural caves or even few pieces of pvc would be good in my opinion.

I don't think 20 gallons is big enough to keep a pair of cons in for life, but it will work for awhile. You will also need some grow out tanks for the fry to grow big enough for feeders.

If I were to breed convicts again I would have a 55 for the breeding pair and use a 20 for the fry/feeders. But convicts will readily breed in anything!

let me tell you a story i had 2 convicts M/F they had babies in a 90 gal... put all the babies in a 29 gal 4 months later 50 pared of and if i kept all the babies alive id have 4000???? in a year from 2 convicts i still have babies as i type right now abot 200 total convict my 2 convict are abot 15 months old...... you could breed convicts in a cup
