I've had mixed results when there's injury to the actual body of the fish (the caudal peduncle). It looks like the split goes all the way into the caudal peduncle? If so, it may not fuse completely back together at the base. Usually the soft part of the fins grow back with no issues. I see big splits in my large adult severums all the time (they usually get rowdy when spawning) but in a matter of days they heal over. As long as your water is clean there shouldn't be any need for salt or additives.
