On the difficulty of correctly identifying your Goonch. (Bagarius)

Hello. I'm searching for someone who may know what species this Goonch Catfish would be.

Wow great thread here rob, been thinking about a goonch but didnt know too much about them, this helped a lot. Do you keep any of your goonch w/ your tigers?

That one is Bagarius rutilus, one of the southeast Asia species. They are imported most regularly as "Thai yarrelli". Wes is going to have some of these in his next batch.
There are three variants that your fish could be if it comes from Thailand though. Rutilus is the most likely morph IMO, but it could also be what I call yarrelli (the 'lowland giant', found in both India and SE Asia) or lica.

The rutilus that Wes has are likely to be your best bet (Thai yarrelli). They're much slower growing than either the highland (B. bagarius) or lowland (B. yarrelli) giants. Lica appears to be fairly slower growing as well, but they are quite rare in the hobby. I've only seen a few examples, so they're hard to gather data on. Hopefully Matt gets one soon so I can examine it.
