NLS has a high vitamin c content, and IMO carries one of the highest nutrient levels of any/all pellets out there. I can't go into detail, so don't ask. You'll just have to trust me on that.

If one feeds fresh/frozen, then I would recommend presoaking their food in Boyd Vitachem, which is also relatively high in vitamin c.

You could always take her out & treat with peroxide, or iodine, and cover with a protective ointment. They actually make liquid band aid type products for fish. Good luck.

RD --

Problem I have with this kinda stuff is netting hurt fish. I net fish, it's a big production, I feel like the stress is worse than tbe treatment.

When they say "stress is hard on fish" .... How much? How to quantify? How hard IS a 10 minute net chase on a wounded fish? DO fish have a much higher problem with stress than mammals?

I used to keep raptors, they had real issues with stress.

It depends on the fish, and the issue/illness at hand. In this case I most certainly would net the fish out, and attempt to treat & seal the wound, vs just watch it get worse & possibly die. If the fish is sedated in a separate tank, tub, bucket, or whatever, they are typically pretty easy to treat, and usually pretty mellow when they go back into their tank. I've helped perform surgery on large fish that were under sedation, that quite frankly stressed me out more than the fish.

A picture of the wound would help.

Having said that my issue with oil based fished treatments is that overdosing with them can coat the gills with oil and the fish suffocates.

The wound can be treated with Iodine or Meth blue put directly on the wound or altunatly you could do a bath of Meth blue at double the in tank dosage along with 1 tbl spoon of salt per 5 gals of water for 30mins. Use tank water for the bathe and do a water change in the main tank while the fish is in the bath. This will give it nice clean water to return once the treatment is over. I wouldn't use the Meth blue in the main tank as it is very hard on your BB but as a bath or applied directly to the wound is is very safe. I would use Meth blue over iodine if it's available to you as it also increases blood flow to the area adding in recovery but iodine is a great second choice and you can get it at any drug store.

It started out about a quarter of this size and is growing rapidly, I guess I will try the iodine application and hope for the best.IMG_0134[1].JPG
