my henlei ray injured his eye and i think he is going to loose it theres skin growing over the eye it does'nt look infected or like its irritating him
my question is do you think a ray could live blind
i don't think they have very good eyesight as it is i am a little concerned for this guy
I have never heard of or seen a rays eye growing skin over it either??
have any of you guys seen this thanks

hi brent, sorry to hear the news... my LFS owner had a motoro in his tank at home and during hurrican Katrina had to move a parrot cichlid into his home tank with the motoro.. parrot bit both eyes out... sad.. but he lived for another few months, feeding regularly and swimming all the same.. he said he got around much the same as he used to, kinda nosing around and blowing in the sand.. then out of no where he lost him, kinda unexplained..
I have also heard they have very poor eyesight to begin with, so a blind ray doesnt seem that difficult, as long as you have no infection.. I am sure your ray is extremely healthy and should do fine, hope all the best for you bro

Please post a picture, I don't see how the ray couldn't survive with only one eye as long as he has no infection and is still eating i think he will be ok. I wish you the best bro. I had a otorango injure her eye a long time ago and it turned white inside I am almost 100% sure she couldn't use it anymore and it never bothered her she went on to breed and live a happy life. Good luck and please post some pictures of damage.

i know a p14 who has one eye.. the other one was bitten of by a puffer...he is very active and doesn't seemd bothered by it... (sorry for bad english )

when i 1st started keeping rays i had a male motoro and a male leo in the same tank the motoro ripped both the eyes of the leo so i got rid of the motoro the leo done just fine he was more active as he needed to find food which took more work

if the ray still has one eye it will be fine if its lost both eye then just make sure its getting food ok for the 1st few months

Thanks guys
i honestly think his eye was damaged from the hose i use to do water changes it has a powerful suction i think he got caught on it awhile back
i have recently put a strainer on the end of the water change hose
damn or another ray could have done it
hard to say
he is prefectly healthy and eatng great it just looks like shibby
my camera was lost so no pic right now
thanks again
