A really nice red betta of some sort... they have major attitude and can come in some nice reds...

-edit-

Missed the part it has to go into your monster tank... then maybe that pike chiclid thats red and yellow... saw it recently but cant remember the name...

Looked something like this:

Atabapo Pike Cichlid

Red Bay Snooks might work but I don't think it'll be as Red as you're looking for.
Red devil/midas cichlids might be an option.
Red spotted severums look pretty amazing.
Red Texas Cichlids also look amazing.
Red Oscar?

A pair of red jewel would fit for him cause these red Jewel easy fit on small aquarium and it's hardy and easy breed too. I'm really sure he will jump around once he saw a bath of fries and he will tell everyone about that in school, friends....etc. It's a joy for him! Other species would fit for his "father" rather than for him :P

I have couple nice male Mesoheros Festae like picture above and wanted to ship one to buddy. FedEx was $200+ which confuses me cause I receive large fish all the time and never pay more than $75. Question...how do I start thread to inquire about best shipping techniques

I like all the suggestions - Festae, Devil or Midas, Oscars, Red Atabapo Pikes, Snooks, Jewels, Mayans, perhaps a nice big harem of Red Zebras, .............how about a Red Drum?
