To those of you who don't know, anthony robles was born with one leg and this weekend went on to win the national championship in his weight class (125 pounds) in college. Yesterday morning i was debating with a friend that he ACTUALLY has an advantage. i'll tell you why i think he has an unfair advantage onces you guys share some of your opinions.

^that's nothing bro, check this guy out. i learned how to embed btw, it's one of those things that's so easy, i dont' know why i never tried before

do you think the wrestler's advantage is that without the leg, he weighs less and goes in there against smaller guys?

that mma dude doesn't have any advantages, he'd get rocked in a real fight. They did a hour long espn special on him. That's just a mockery of the sport. However, kyle IS an inspiration, just the fact that i knew his name without watching your vid says something about the mark he's been able to make on this world

Yes, the human legs make up 40 percent of your body weight. So at 125 pounds, his opponents legs weight 50ish ponds. Since they're both the same weight, he's got 25 pounds of upper body size on his opponents...plus he's always in the squat position so no take down opportunities

i saw that wrestler and soon thought the exact same thing.

his style plays on the floor and muscles people with his upper half. might as well not have both legs and but on 50 pounds of muscle to your upper half. making you substantially stronger than your opponent.

its just that people dont care for that. they see it as him overcoming the odds.

he's said he won't be pursuing olympic wrestling but i wonder if the commitee would have allowed it anyways. i think that's a significant size advantage.

Instead, he's going to become a motivational speaker

I dont think he has an advantage, its a lot easier to get taken down with just one leg to balance on. In bjj it would be a really big disadvantage because you wouldnt be able to do triangles, closed guard, half guard, butterfly guard, back position with BOTH hooks in, etc.

i had the same thoughts when i heard about him but watching him you quickly realizes he starts on the ground so there is no knocking him off balance for take downs...so now you're looking at someone who's significantly stronger then everyone else in his weight class and STARTS in the squat position

I was thinking the same thing but when he was tied up he didn't have the leg strength to get free either when he wanted.

All in all I don't know how it would work out and there's really no way to know I guess. I can see where it is an advantage but at the same time I watched the match and there were times that it was a disadvantage for him as well.

btw, i feel like a grinch for even saying a one legged person has an advantage but like any good journalist, i just questions!

this is so bizarre, a couple of my friends were just arguing about this exact topic, lol. I think it's hard to judge unless you've been a wrestler with two legs, lost one, and then wrestled with one leg
