I just got a 27g eclipse system tank. I was thinking of getting a breeding pair of Convicts, but I hear that after breeding, the pair will eventually try to kill one another. Is this true?

Im not sure if theyll try an kill each other, I think theyll just continue to breed over a over.

it can be true but in a 29 they should have enough room to get away easily.
mine usually fight after they breed but with the babies in there it is not as bad and the female can handle her own. as soon as she is ready to breed again it is all good usually only a few days of fighting

if they have enough space they shouldn't fight too badly. there probably will be a couple squabbles but nothing too serious. I'm not too sure exactly how big a 27 eclipse is, but once they get to full grown size they might need a slightly larger tank.

:)

I'm also curious about pairing them. I found an awsome looking male with great lines and long fins and another female in another tank with great lines and deep orange-red color around her belly. The female looks like she has a man, but I want the other one. Could both of them pair up fine or is it best to buy a pair that has already formed?

The dimensions are roughly 24" x 15" x 15".
It's not really an Eclipse System, but a similiar system. The glass is curved so I couldn't get an excat measurement.

My experience is I have yet to have Cons that have rough enough bedplay to kill eachother .... Other than that they might die from too much bedplay and no food   :headbang2

Mine are currently at each others throats, but they are in a 10 gal being only an inch each. I've had to put them in a 29 much like yours. I'll keep you updated to see if they pair back up.
