Rallysman has nailed it. I can see Aussie lungfish playing and I can catch saratoga anytime I want so they arent rare for me. I would gladly pay AUD$1000 for a Red Tail Cat if I could find one.....

What is the rarest in our mind is what we don't see...Aussie lungfish for me is rare, and i'd like to have one, never seen any here. But you want a RTC? I can buy them here for 15$ LOL

Oh and did somebody mention Channas? Well i'm the channa master boys! I can get any friggin kind of channa, for below 30$. Heck the guy at the fish store is ready to give away some reds cause he wants to get rid of them. I have to resist the temptation everytime i go there ;)

I did have a hard time getting my Mbu puffer here in Canada...dang waited a year, then ordered one myself. Every place has it's perks :naughty:

There are probably plenty of species that no one has kept or anyone outside of people studying have kept... but not necessarily rare. Ancistrus formoso would be one.

There are some madtom species that are only found in one stream in the USA, and they have only been caught 4 times ever documented. I'll have to do some more research to find out more, but I'd say that's pretty rare for a recognized species that's not considered extinct.

Oh, and some species will only get more and more rare. Like Pangasianodon gigas. There have only been a handfull caught in the past 10 years. Including the world record of 648 lbs.
