You can't do this because you can't balance the overflows that good. Even if you had it right today tomorrow one overflow could take all the water, run one pump out and flood the other. Thats why you need the crossover.

Ok, got it :) Guess i'll keep browsing CL for one...I found one last week, but when I had him fill it up with water, about half way up it started to leak all over the place on the bottom and I passed on it. Thanks for the input everyone.

you can easily make two trickle towers and fit em in a single 55g. look at some drawer-style wet/dry builds. best bang for your buck IMO. then you only need one return pump.

:) Good luck, I use rubbermaid totes. You just have to find the right ones to fit in your stand. Check out my thread I just posted last week for a diy filter. The rubbermaid totes are great to work with, you can drill and put pipes anywhere.

The tank is only a 180 a new sump for a tank that size won't cost much

In my sump which is 6x2x2 in the 1st part I have 2 layers of jap mat the in the 2nd section bio balls then the main big section I have loads of eheim mech and substrate pro and 75 litters of K1 the next section has the heaters and the last section the return pumps and the overflow for the drip system

I used that alafrog but it was crap so dumped it

Had my system for 4 years with no probs so i think its what you feel comforable with. I could do things differently but for now its working for me. Thanks for sharing how you set yours up T1 it has given me some ideas for when i decide to change.

Can't I just run one overflow to one sump with a return pump and the other overlow to the other sump with another return pump (which i have 2 mag 12's already)....

Yes you can but it could get a little wonky trying to make sure the water level is maintained in each sump. You would have to account for is the tank 100% level and are the overflows 100% same hight, are both pumps pump 100% the same speed. You could end up in a situation where one over flow is slower then the other and and the pump in that sump is slightly faster then the overflow and you start to get an imbalance or could even be the other way around

My fish tank stand is having two doors, one on the right and one of the left. i made two sumps, and each sump has it's own overflow inlet, but only one sump have the pump...

and i linked the two sumps together from the back with 1.5 Inch pipe. it's working perferct.
