Online aquarium company recommendations?

well it actually depends the bigger the cage from them the more problems your likely to have from there aquariums
The 500 I have from them, it was used when I got it too, has no problems. When you look, you will find negatives reviews of every company that sells tanks.

As previously said, bad new travels..

I prefer acrylic. If the OP goes that route, MidWest Costumes is the place to go IMO. I've seen bad reviews of them as well. But like my glass cages tanks, I have no problems with my tanks from there.

ya but midwest custom cages has very little bad reviews glasscages has plenty as I said before they are a hit or miss. So you must have gotten lucky with them or were smart and had them test the water for you to make sure there were no leaks.

This is just my opinion but when you start getting into very big tanks it's always going to be a shoot and miss. Here is why I think this.

I don't think anyone builds a tank that's fool proof. That being said there is a lot of variables that can cause a tank to fail.

Tanks are such a Grey area in that respect. How can one be sure the stand and floor was level enough or strong enough.

One thing I notice on here when someone posts about a tank failing

"Tank was perfectly level and it's on a manufactured stand. Must be tanks manufacturers fault"

Rarely do I see someone post about re checking after the failure. When you have like 5000 lbs on a surface that is a lot of the time low surface area posts things can take a long time to settle to its permanent spot.

My basement is concrete. We have some cracks here and there but nothing major. But we are told these are just from the house settling. I would think this could effect an already setup aquarium for the worse.

And like mentioned. You always hear the negative more than the good.

Ya you are right luke oscar you are very wise im just here trying to help eyespot thats all im not going to tell him what he wants to get thats up to him if he wants a midwest custom aquarium he can get that if he wants a glasscage he can get that but im just trying to give him the best option possible some are more expensive than others but if he cant afford any of my options than he should go with a cheaper option like glasscages.

If your looking for a glass tank, checkout customaquariums.com, I'm picking up a 240 from them in a few weeks
Not as cheap as class cages but pretty affordable as far as big fish tanks go.

you are right on that one Thekid you are wiser than your years.

"It's better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it" is what my dad's always said. But if someone asks why you don't talk much the answer should be "murders aren't even planed aloud".

However the tank safety calculator is also very useful when buying a tank. You get what you pay for when buying an aquarium but some will be better deals than others.

One thing to keep in mind when comparing reviews online.

Unless you know how many each manufacture sells you can't even judge based on how many failures you have heard of. Maybe your hearing about glass cages a lot because they sell more then anyone else?

Ya alot of people buy from glasscages but it can be good or bad the experience is different for everyone. But thanks for the tip.

That's not what I meant.

I'll bet you can find bad and good reviews about every single manufacturer.

Let's use some examples.
You read of 100 tank failures for Marineland. But only 15 for glass cages.

Does that make glass cages better? Absolutely not. It could. But we don't have the required information to make that call.

Marineland could have sold 1000 tanks while glass cages only sold 50.

Marineland would have a better success ratio. Even though you hear about there failures that much more often.
