Looking to buy a Ehiem 2217 and have seen some good deals online. No tax reasonable shipping. I'm just torn between getting a good deal or supporting my LFS. It's a excellent shop full of rare and wild caught fish from all over the world. He offered to come down to $175 +tax but this is still a bit higher than the deals online. Should I pay a premium just to support my LFS?

I'm looking at it this way.... I don't mind tipping for good service so why not support the LFS.... and have immediate satisfaction.... but I'm cheap..... and oh so conflicted.........

Personally I'd take the $40 hit. But my LFS has saved me WAY more than $40, so I figure it's a give and take relationship. I get calls when they get fish I like it, they order me what i need, they throw in free plants and fish almost every time, I usually get things 10% above cost, etc.

The only time I don't buy from them is if they don't carry what I need, or I get a crazy bulk discount from another source.

i agree lfs is a better choice cuase they will be there for you if you really need something, go online on a saturday when a heater, impeller, o-ring craps out on ya and see what that does for ya. where as a good lfs may borrow you something to get you thru if its something they dont handle. just how i roll.

I would go with buying it at you LFS if they treat you as a valued customer then you should give back plus the human iteraction is allways good

You cant realy talk to a web site and bring down the price as far as i Know

money dont grow on tree's and the lfs is still making a ton of profit off ya even at the "discounted" price. support them by buying some fish with the $40 you save.

All very good points!
It has been a good relationship so far and I do get good treatment there. I like a place where they know what fish I've kept over the years and know what I might be interested in seeing or buying. They're also willing to barter which I like. I believe I'll stick with supporting my LFS doing my part to help him stay around to help me.
