Sounds like a serious plan. Make sure you put a lot of driftwood and rocks and such for them to hide in. Also if you get anything around an inch or so it will be a few years before any of them are mature enough to breed. I would say bite the bullet and spend your money on adults. You end up spending the same amount of money in food over a few years anyway plus you may get them to spaw right away.

yes, i've had 2 different schools of 10, and one of 7. in the group of seven i got a pair but i don't think tha male was fertile or he wasn't fertilizing the eggs cause 3 diff spawns turned just rotted away.

not to bad. What it the lid made out of?

have you thought about going with something longer and narrower so your gallonage is still the same? or is a 12foot tank the longest you could go ?

did you try massive aggresion yet they are far away from you but if they can't get what you want they might be able to point you to someone closer to you

i like growing them up, and it's more like a year to maturity.

i would have liked to go 24' with 4x4 ends but i only have room for 12:( the lid is 2x4 sheets of plexi framed with some 2x3/4 wood. plexi intead of mesh because of evaporation and heat retention.

could you do a 12x12 L shaped tank ?

Sorry for kind of crapping on your other Idea but I like RBPs to be in longer tanks as opposed to wider and deeper. gives them more running room. so you can stock more heavily
