What do you guys think of a 7'Lx3'Wx3'H? or 8' long. its gonna be a species only tank for my ARTC. Please note, they dont grow as big as S.American RTC.
now, heres the twist-
Its going in the basement, next to a billiards table.
I want to add 2 or 3 shelves on each end, have a flat, hinged wooden top, and 4"x4" braces to hold a glass enclosed top shelf, above what has now become MY BAR! I cant think of anything better than drinking like a fish, with my fish!
This is all in my head, and I'm gonna draw some sketches soon, price stuff out... (glass and filter are most expensive, along with oak/mahogany and stain)

That sounds B.A!
You had better run it by some higher ups in your household IE spouse.
BUT I will support you.You can tell em that to.
Tell em the wee_todd says its a good idea.

LOLZ I dont have a spouse, significant other.... "I treat women like i treat fish- Catch and release!"

what a good motto..:headbang2..look good with the plan.you'd better have 8 in length.so,when it gonna start?good luck and keep update..

I can see your point, I too am now thinking otherwise about flying cue balls and whatnot. jus remember that 1/2" cast cell acrylic with a few hundred Lbs. of water pushing outwards might laugh at a errant ball... I dare not use glass.
If worse comes to worse, the tank will still be downstairs but away from the table- thanks for makin some valid points, guys!

What have you thought about filtration? I would think the easiest thing would be one or two tall "cabinets" coming off of the top of it where you could run a tube from a pump in the tank and just have it trickle back into the tank. Or a cabinet at one end, and have the sump just about as tall as the tank. That may work well too.

Are you wanting to have it viewable through the top too?

No, i do not want it viewable from the top. just a hinged top so i can do WC's and access the lights/tank. I do like your idea, DanH of eliminating a side shelf. could drill an overflow @ the top, add a filtersock, and let it trickle through bio-media. add a pump at the bottom for a return, and im skeptical about using only 1 filter, I want to go with an XP3 too.
Definately gonna use pool filter sand.
