One of the walmarts here stocked puffers and angel fish in the same tank. The angels of course were all torn up. I told the girl working there and explained the problem. Her reply was a lazy "Well I didn't do it. Some one else did that." Then I told her about an oscar with 'hole in head' and she again said lazily "nut'n I can do about it".

When you pay minimum wage you get minimum employee.

urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr idiots

Those fish survived the long trip and are doing great in my tank. Props to the Fort Wayne Walmart, although I never thought I would be saying it.

Well I've just got to give my 2 cents on this one. I work at a Walmart on 3rd shift and up to a few months ago I was the Pet's associate. Well I hurt my back and had to move departments, but I still take care of getting fish for customers that come in. Now we all know that most Walmart have a really pitiful fish department and that some of the employees couldnt care less what happens. But you have to realize that low level employees have absolutley no say as to what goes on. And to keep going in and complaing to your store management will only hurt you and not help the poor fishies in the long run. There are also some stores that have won awards for how neat and clean they keep their fish departments. I'd like to add that if it wasnt for working in the fish department I probably would have never became as interested in this hobby as I am. Now as to the comment about only getting minimum workers for minium pay, I would like to say that each and every one of us has a choice as to how much of a work ethic we have. Regardless of if you make 15,000 a year or 150,000 a year you can either earn your pay and try your best to go above and beyond, or you can be a lazy *** and just loaf around waiting for your pay check. I have busted my behind to get my pay up to a better level and every person has that same oppurtunity. So dont go demeaning some one because they work in a place with low wages ok?

Now for everyone that goes in a store and see's the filth we all have come to expect I say this... DO NOT just stop and ask a random person in a blue vest. Ask for the department manager or the store manager and tell them they are losing business and profit because of the condition of their fish tanks. If they do not give you satisfaction, ask them for the Store # of that facility and call 1-800-WALMART and report them. If more people would do that instead of just complaining I guarantee you will see results.

Sorry for the rambling and length but hearing people blame employees for something they have 0 control over gets under my skin. Thank you and have a nice day :D

I actually emailed walmart about a nasty store that they had, and in 2 days the manager had called me. She asked what they could do to fix the problem, I told her, and the next time I went in everything was in good shape. I was pretty impressed.

I feel the same way you do, I work my butt of when I am in, even though other people slack off. Now I get a 3 hour a week block to fix things that haven't been done right or make things easier on my manager. People have gotten mad at me because they are not satisfied with what is going on, but some times once they tell me what is going on, they are ok. For instance, I have a regular that buys 100 feeders every week, and the first time I dealt with him, he was very angry. This was because he was waiting for help, and I was trying to do everything in the department because I was left alone on one of our busiest times (Friday nights). After I explained to him what was going on, talked about some SA cichlids, he went home with some Severums and came back the next week happy to see me. Other times, I have had people come in and have problems that I can't help. A few days ago, I bagged some feeders for someone, they walked up to the register, then came back to where I was, threw the fish on the table, and said that I couldn't count. My manager was right there, and new it was his problem not mine. If you have a problem, talk to someone about it, we try hard. I don't work for Walmart, but I do try to keep our fish department in the best shape possiblle.

About 12 years ago, my brother worked at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo (cleaning monkey cages). My wife and I went to go visit him and spend the week-end in Fort Wayne. My brother (also a fish keeper) took us to this really nice fish store. I bought some saltwater fish and the store owner told me that if I put an aerator in with them and they would last till we got home the next day. The poor fish lasted about 10 hours and the store reluctantly replaced them as their information was wrong.

I don't think the problem is Walmart in general, the problem is individual stores/employees that make no effort and/or have no knowledge.

haha, well for all the grief that walmart may get for having less than desirable pet services, we have to keep in mind that they specialize in providing cheap products in every possible category. what college students or graduates havent gone there to buy furniture, kitchenware, cheap clothes, etc.? with that in mind, it's ballzy to see when a few walmarts go above and beyond the call of fish duty, but you almost cant expect them to excel in their fish department... we have a local hardware store around here that sells popcorn on the side... it's basically sawdust from the tablesaws mixed with butter... so I dont go there to stock up when it's a blockbuster night.
