Only Me, I Swear

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow, today was an amazing day. Me and my dad sat down and planned everything out. We have a location and everything for the tank. He admits he was wrong last night and regrets not getting the tank. I'm so happy we worked this out. Now, its a matter of finding a tank!

what state do you live in...I can get some smokin deals on tanks.

It's not really about power it's just that they weren't thinking about a cool tank...are you 17 or 18? Just a guess. My dads 73 and he still thinks the world should change and do it his way. :screwy:

See I was right..... :headbang2 I'm 40 and I was right for once.

Since you are 16, I'll give you a little unsolicited advice from a guy who's 30 and still dealing with a Dad who is "always right."

1) Your Dad is human. He makes mistakes, don't take him to task, talk to him like an adult with facts and reasonable opinions to sway him to your thinking. Like my Grandmother always said: "You catch more bees with honey than vinegar." I'm sure you get the point.

2) Admit that he might be right sometimes. You'll get along better.

3) Someone already mentioned this, but point out that you are a good kid who does his schoolwork and doesn't do drugs ad other bad crap. Fishtanks are a healthy hobby.

4) Enjoy the time now, you grow up and go to college, then you have to work in the real world, it sucks, and makes people irritable. Fishtanks become less of a priority.

Now go start planning your 180!

WOW<THANKS!

Something you might want to bear in mind is that total weight can count almost as much as foot print dispersal on old style joist floors, if the floor has any sag to it and your tank is not directly next to the sill plate even a smaalish tank can cause problems. Most code built houses will have no problem and you can always do some reinforcement. I hope you get your 180, good luck.

A little more advice -

"When I was 16, I thought my Dad was stupid and didn't know anything. When I was 25, I was amazed at what my dad learned in the past 9 years"

Don't know if my dad was like that - he died unexpectedly when I was 23. He did learn alot in those 6 years though.... and even more in the 12 that have passed since.

Accept that while you live in his house you need to live by his rules. Don't like the rules, discuss them without getting mad or angry or raising your voice or anything like that.

Patch things up wtih your dad, do your best to have a good relationship with him for as long as possible.

And don't worry, that tank was not a once in a lifetime deal. The other day I saw a 210 WITH stand and overflows at a lfs here for $700, and they overcharge EVERYTHING. I'm sure that you can find a better, or at least equal deal. :)

I'm still on the lookout for a tank. I already have everything else planned out as far as decor and fish.
