Beautiful fish! Very nice.

Yeah wc is about the only option for Ornatum it seems. Such a beautiful species though....so torn

My vote is Ornatum however I would respect Rucks experience over my opinion. Rapps or Discus Origins is where I would get Ornatum from. Neither of my Ornatum are shy. I have no experience with Beani.

Beanis are the most aggressive pound for pound cichlid imo..

There has not been a sucessful Ornatum Spawn being shown yet..

What you saw in the video was suppose to hype up the fish and to make the price go higher.. That is no spawn in my eyes.

When you see parents with fry then believe.. In that video Female laid eggs and male was just hanging around like the other fish in the tank because he's stuck in there.. I know breeding behavior when I see it.. Cmon where are all the knowledgeable ppl at????

Beanis are bad. I want one. I want Ornatums too. I do think there will eventually be Ornatum spawnings in the future. just my cents

and because of that optimism, I'd go with Ornatums to try and do what's not been done before..

Agreed. No update since June 20th after eggs...

Another reason I'm so intrigued. Can't find any actual fry from a spawn anywhere.

I say Beani all the way!!! Umbeeking and I had some wc imported from his source because if my skeptism of the ones everyone else had actually being wild caught or true ornatum. Also to see about opening up the possibilities of successfully spawning them where so many other people have failed. but this attempt was also a fail:/ I do really like the colors of the ornatums and would be awesome to actually obtain a breeding pair but I have since lost my interest in keeping any unless I have an extra tank that I could throw a nice male in and just grow out as a solo show specimen. Otherwise I say Beani because I agree with Gani and I think you would find that you would have better results and expiriences with Beani:) however, You need to be happy with whatever you choose.Good luck

I always say get both and take your time to decide with them in your possession till the day they have to part.

Wow.... Tough fish to spawn huh? Lol

Looks like I'm gonna need around 1/4-1/5 hp chiller either way. That's just to hit mid 70's 6 months out of the year.

Living in Florida is not an advantage here.

One advantage with ornatum is that I was able to grow a female trio with my group of festae and atromaculatum in a 270 g tank with no major issues. My big male ornatum had its own tank.
