Only Selling Males

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I understand what you're saying but I don't agree. A majority of pet stores around here oftentimes have a bunch of females around because most people want males and will pass on the females. The females related to the very nice males often look like normal pet-store quality females. If they saw a tank of nice male guppies with females most would assume that they're related and would buy a pair. Even if the males were in a tank by themselves you could just sell one of them with a female from a different line. Since no local fish stores I've been to on the Island have black guppies, let alone "show" guppies I would in a way have a monopoly.

ps- by using the word "show" I really just mean large tails as to when compared with a majority of fish store guppies, not trying to sound snotty.

Someone would still be able to take your males and crossbreed them with regular females, probably coming out with something cooler looking then purebred moscows. If i were you, and wanted to make money off livebearers I would go with something more rare. Ive seen Moscows in most every LFS around here. Id go to Jeff Rapps and check his current stock of Livebearers. When i messaged him about the poecilia gilli he showed me other rare platys and mollys that were truly beautiful. I wouldnt over-think this too much man, sell em all other then the ones you want to keep for breeding stock.

Well - if you want to re-invent the wheel, good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I appreciate your input and it definitely got me thinking differently. Ill try it first my way and let you know how things go and if my "strategy" goes belly-up I might have a couple questions for you :D. Thanks again

sell your lower quality females to the LFS, and keep your high quality ones to breed.

and why are you derailing this thread? so far your following every one of my posts and derailing it with your nonsensical rubbish, whilst it's pretty much basic information I'm posting, and I'm sure with a lot of it many would agree. it's getting boring now, stop derailing various threads and my posts, and if you are going to then atleast post actual corrections, and you even said my experience is in betta and guppies, so stop derailing my posts. Get over it.

I have Come across ppl who develop a new strain of livebearers & use chemicals to sterlize the fish before selling, this is quite a ruthless business afterall.
