How many out of my group of ten can I expect to be picked off ? Im feeding three times a day trying to prevent this, but so far one down. Down to 9....

Species? Tank size? No one really knows? Sometimes none will die other times you will lose 1-9. Feeding multi times a day usually won't stop it. And what size are they?

This is the cariba, 2" in a 180 correct?

I believe feeding is important to fight cannibalism in juvies, but 3-5" is hard to prevent cannibalism. Hopefully the tank size will allow them room to run away from any bullies. My shoal of 8 started as a shoal of 15.

Strong current will also break up aggression, low lite, lower temp(75ish), clean water, bw and most importantly a varied constant diet, if I were you id take a piece of fishing line and tie a chunk of talapia or shrimp on it so they have something to nibble while your at work or gone.

I have no experience with caribe, but I do have pygos (rbp), I started with 6 and all 6 are still alive, however I gave one away awhile back. My guess would be 7-8!

my guess is you'll lose 2 more. i don't think diet/feeding plays as much a part cannibalism as some people make it out to be as many people can attest first hand that they've lost piranhas after a feeding while feeding 3 times a day. territorial disputes is more likely the cause. how can any of us predict that?

just keep us posted

Most people keep their bare tanks to have their shoal become more active and less skittish (i tried and it failed). It pretty much made them more skittish and less active unless it was feeding time. For pygos at a small size (mine are 3-4"), they will nip and fight all day. In order to limit the chance of cannabalism, you should always provide hiding spots from plants, driftwood, etc. This way we can decrease the chance of cannablism by limited the "line of sight". Once my shoal went into a new tank with many plants and dw, they became less skittish and more active. Even if they fight, the line of sight is limited therefore the chase is brief or temporary. But I shouldnt relate your shoal my shoal because you have caribas and i just have regular rbps. try to lower water temps and add some plants with more hiding spots. Once they become adults, they will be more comfortable with each other as well as you so might not need to hide anymore.

Listen to the people ^ me. They are well experienced and their comments should be considered. No BS. They have helped me in the past and they will help you too. Just keep us posted on what you did and if any more fell to the common problem of cannabalism. I started with 11 and still have 11 pygos. I bet if they were caribas, I would have lost some by now.

Yea 10 Caribe all around 3 inches. in a 180 gallon tank... Water is VERY clean, have two classic 350s on the tank. Lowers the temps ? Why? I will work on that varied diet, ive only had them a few days now I just wanted to get them eating... I dig the fishing line idea.

Also turnes out I just miss counted this morning. All ten are there, but I want it to stay that way preferably. I dont really want to lower the light, I have 2 three foot leds on there. Very directional I hate the half light looking tanks.

I have "target fish" in there, a one inch convict and two one inch clown loaches. I plan on putting a school of guppies in there for them to chase and eat as they please.

I have decore in the tank, so they can break lines of sight and get away. My current is fairly good I might toss a power head in there.

Cooler waters make pygos a little less active, I've seen rbp at 58 degress, and some people here keep them at 83-85, id say 74-78 is ideal for aggression.
